Carpet weaving tools in Turkish and Persian techniques
In Iran weaving carpets in terms of techniques and methods of texture is divided into two regions of Turk Baf and Persian Baf. The Turkish texture areas include the west and northwest of the country, and the Persian-speaking regions include the center and the east and southeast. As we said in these areas, the type of knot and the technique of texture and the type of tools are different. In this post, we will talk about various tools in these areas.

Kerkit
It is a tool for beating woven rows, which reduces the distance between woven rows from each other, fasten the carpet knots, passing wefts from the warps and beat them.

Butt cutting scissors
This tool is used to cut off extra yarns of woven knots. In this kind of Persian scissors, the blade is welded to the upper edge of the blade, which determines the thickness of the carpet and prevents over-rigging of the carpet.
there are different kind of Scissors including Isfahan scissors, ridgy scissors, and Missile scissors.
Butt cutting knife
This tool is used to cut the knots that vary according to the taste of the weaver in different types and sizes. This knife has a typical wooden blade bunch, and at some times the tip of the knife has an edge.

It is a tool for smoothening the knots. Sometimes it is also used to open the wavy yarns

Comb
Made of plain metal straps, all of which stick together and form the handle. It’s all metal. This tool is also used for beating the woven knots and setting them. its duty is like the kerkit, beating the woven knots, but its appearance is different.
Stik
This tool is in sizes ranging from 40 to 80 centimeters with a width of 2 centimeters and it’s made of metal. The tool has a bouncy mode and has friction at the tip, and also has a hole at the end to use a carpet that does not have Koji, in Turkish areas.
Hook
This tool has a sharp hook and a blade that is hooked to grab warps and uses a blade to cut the knots. Catching the warps with your fingers in Turkish techniques cannot be done.
Arak and Farahan carpets are located in the center of Iran, and the method is Persian knot. In the Farahan carpet, weavers use Persian knots for knitting a handmade carpet, and Persian tools such as Kerkit, knife, comb, and scissors.
